Harvest Market and Fair
Join us on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 for our final outdoor market of the season and the 4th Annual Harvest Fair.
A celebration of urban agriculture, the Harvest Fair has gardeners and crafters from around the city competing for the red ribbon and local bragging rights.
Based on the classic rural horticultural fair, the Hillhurst Sunnyside Harvest Fair is a community based, friendly contest with every entry eligible to win a ribbon and local bragging rates. In addition to 1st and 2nd place we are excited to announce a people’s choice award! Categories range from the Largest Pumpkin, Most Unusually Shaped Vegetable, and Best Pie. We have made some changes to the categories this year, so be sure to check out the full list here.
As with previous years, we have a roster of incredible judges tasting, measuring, and comparing all the entries, including John Gilchrist (CBC and Calgary Herald columnist), ‘Let’s Talk Gardening’ host Joanne Dafoe, Chef Andrew Hewson from the SAIT Culinary Arts School and The Honourable David Swann, MD, MLA.
In conjunction with the horticultural contest, the Harvest Fair features a number of not for profit organizations that support and benefit from local food in Calgary; it is a great opportunity to learn and get enthused about growing local food!
