Doin' it in the City - Urban Ag in YYC
Farmers' Market 3-7pm and Local 301: Urban Agriculture Workshop at 7pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2015
Doin’ it in the City – Urban Ag in YYC
Can urban agriculture be integrated throughout Calgary? Imagine walking past the farm that grew the food you will eat for dinner on your way home from work? What if your kids grew up knowing not only where their food comes from, but the person who grew it? Imagine a city where opportunities to engage in the food system are all around, opportunities for your community to grow, cook, eat and learn together. Join us for the 3rd annual panel discussion on urban agriculture in Calgary. This year the focus of the discussion will be on identifying barriers and opportunities experienced by urban farmers to accessing land in Calgary. Local experts will share knowledge of working models in other cities and their views on the possibilities that exist for Calgary to integrate urban agriculture throughout the city at public, private, community and institutional levels. The panelists are Audrey Smith, Victoria Campbell-Avrai and Marcus Reidner; they bring a mix of academic, community level and on-the-ground urban farming experience. Tim Kitchen, Chair of the HSCA Board of Directors will be moderating the discussion.
